sounds like a decent bike. write a letter to halfords, make notes of everything that has happened to include in the letter, get something from your LBS to prove you have a case.

give them two weeks to sort it.

when you say £125 damage, do you mean you have to spend £125 to put everything right now?
Remember the time he ate my goldfish? And you lied and said I never had goldfish. Then why did I have the bowl Bart? Why did I have the bowl?

  • Get the bike from them asap, take it to a proper bike shop (Halfords are teh pc world of bikes - don't have a clue) and get them to sort the issues. Once that's done bill Halfords for the damage, you've given them more than enough time to resolve the issue but they obviously don't know how to or don't care to solve the problem - also do you now have faith in whatever they do to the bike?

i spoke to my local bike shop (the people who actually know what theyre doing), and they said that they havnt heard from halfords.

Seems to suggest that it's still with the other bike shop whereas

i cant find a complaints number on the main halfords website. theyve said to me 5 times the bike is ready and when i drive the 11 miles it takes to get in it turns out its not ready at all!!!?? ive worked out im £60 out of pocket for petrol (i use my bike to commute to work, so now im having to drive), and have a bike thats ruined!!!!
any advice would be appreciated. thanks.

Seems to suggest that it's back trying to get fixed with Halfords.

Still think my advice is valid but for the muppets like omen666 I'll spell it out and make it nice and clear

step one - IF Halfords have the bike get it back asap
step two - IF bike isn't already at another bike shop take it to one
step three - have other bike shop repair your bike
step four - bill Halfords for damage they have done

Hope that clears things up for those that can't think outside the box a little

but I do object to Halfords employing kids. Its not the kids fault

    Isn't that illegal?

So now I have my bike back and its all working. Should I continue to complain?

    About what?

    They've sorted it out.

I would. I'd write to their Head Office explaining in detail what has happened, how you've been inconvenienceed and led a merry dance. OK, they've paid to put your bike right, but what about compensation for your costs, stress and distress? I'd ask for £100 to start; you may get £50 out of it.
