Briefly, I have stocks and shares Isas with Halifax, savings with B/Midshires and cash Isas with Halifax. I realise that I only have protection for my cash element for both establishments, but what about the stocks and shares element ?

Stocks and shares ISAs fall under the investments FSCS protection (rather than savings). However, in reality that protection is really nothing more than a bit of paper and "feel good" as the money is held by a trustee arrangement and that is what really gives you the most protection. Its only likely to kick in due to failure on management or misrepresentation.
For this type of invesment (as there are two different investment protections. Pensions and life funds differ) you get 100% of the first £30,000 and 90% of the next £20,000.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
