Wondering what people's opinions of Homecheck are. I just put in the postcodes of some properties I'm interested in and to be frank, it scared the life out of me! Seems like the houses I'm looking at are about to collapse into great pits of industrially polluted landfill, that's if they don't get carried away in a flood or slide down the hill (work that one out!).

  • Just but my postcode in, it`s a load of rubbish. High risk of flood, if we flood we would be the last of thousands round us, we live on top of a hill! Also high risk of mining damage, no mines any where near here, or land fill for that matter. My family have lived here for years, my great gran said my house is on an old farm.

Go have a look round and speak to locals and local council, they should be able to tell you the truth.

Mine looks pretty awful to until you look into the detail of whay they mean.

I'm at High risk from flooding means from my postcode is within 500m of the flood plain of an underground stream (so what it's quite a way and downhill from my house),

I'm at high risk from subsidence means I live near some trees (yep, its a big forest which is though of as a benefit in the area).

High historical land use: not that surprising its been built up for a while so will have had some inductrial past.

High pollution: yep I live near London
  • I read my report.

Fact All houses are detetched house in my post code area.
Any other type is not allowed.

The report said similar post code area to mine have 25% detatched.

Me too but if you close the window and then re-use the link the OP gave us, you can search another postcode.

My (full) postcode is shared by only 12 properties. Whilst I agree the information is "generic" (we're high risk for everything!), and as such has no direct relevance to my property, there is a serious side.

If this information, or the source of much of the information, ie the Environment Agency, is used by the insurance companies - how many of us are paying over the odds for our buildings & contents insurance?

Humm apparently we are at risk from flooding from the sea, we do live within 500 meters from the sea, this is true, however we are also on top of a 50 meter cliff. This is a very general site which I would take with a large pinch of salt but I do wonder about loading of insurance company policies if they use data such as this to asses the risk.
