HI
For any mac users out there, what are the comparisons of a refurbished apple macbook pro and a new one on the Apple site?
Which would you recommend to buy?
Thanks

I bought one from the refurb store £300 cheaper than new,
The only thing was it came in a plain brown box as opposed to a Apple Mac Box.
The refurb store is normally when a product has become faulty, with in a certain time Apple will just replace the item Ie my laptop, so it has been fixed gone through their strict testing and been resold.
It came with all original Disks a full 1 years warranty but just a damn site cheaper.0 -
Thankyou very much. The answer is obvious then0

but not so obvious you forget to click the thanks button0

As I am a new user I was unaware of the system for thanking people for advice, therefore I thanked you in my post, is there a problem with this?0
-
No, you don't have to click the thanks button at all, and certainly not because someone tells you to.0

Ok I understand now that its been explained to me.
The sarcastic tone was unnecessary in the previous post and very offputting to new users like myself who are still finding there way around.0 -
Chili,
It was not meant to be off putting but yes sarcastic, You will find lots of people on here will give a lot more abuse, than what i wrote,
If i offended you in anyway, take it on the chin and move on,0 -
So which particular model are you looking at? All the MBP's in the refurb store at the moment are fairly recent models so you should get a very nice and quick machine which will support the full 4GB memory. Apple do sometimes put much older spec Macbooks into the refurb store and these (slower than 2.2GHz C2D processor) only support 3GB.
Otherwiseyou should be OK. Be very sure to check the machine carefully, not forgetting you still have you right-to-cancel and get your money back if you are not fully satisfied (less charge for transport back to Apple if you are simply cancelling and the item isn't faulty or mis-supplied). A biker buddy of mine did just that recently as the refurb machine was slightly flawed.0 -
Mike,
Am looking for a macbook pro for my son going to uni to study motion graphics and animation. The uni has recommended it (though not obligatory obviously) but as you know they are very pricey.
I would probably go for the cheapest one at £1099 but I have to say we are new to macs so any advice is great. It would seem that with the refurb ones you get what your given pretty much. Whereas when I looked on the student discount bit of the site (not as cheap as a refurb) there were lots of choices to make on size, peripherals, type of finish on screen, modem cables etc..
All a bit confusing for a mac newbie!
We cant afford to go much higher than £1099 so I could do with knowing what I actually need to make the thing run properly. I have rung apple helpdesk but they are not much help tbh and just out to sell me as much as they can!0 -
I have a 2.2GHz Macbook Pro that was the latest spec in November 2007. It runs like a dream. The "slowest" machine right now in the refurb shop is 2.4GHz at £1099, which (IMHO) will go like the wind! Some extra RAM from Crucial will make a difference for the sort of intense compute work that you describe. Right now 4GB will cost £58.74 Other than the RAM all you really need then is a nice bag to carry it round in! The college will provide all the software for the course and other software is either provided or can be downloaded for free e.g. OpenOffice.0
