Help Sony Vaio Vgc-lm2e Desktop No Internet

Hi
I have just bought a vaio it has windows vista premium. I have Virgin media broadband connected by a modem, which works perfectly well on my old computer I have no problems what so ever. I have tried to connect the broadband to my new pc and cannot get the internet connection, it is very frustrating. In view of this I contacted virgin media support, they asked me to do various tasks but still I could not get any internet connection. I rang them 3 times basically the advise they gave was as follows:-

1. to buy an ethernet connection or if that does not work take it to my local
pc shop as there is a problem with the "drivers".

To be perfectly honest I am a technophobic, I have'nt a clue so please could someone give me some help or advise?, I would be very grateful. Would it be easier to take it to my local shop and ask them to sort it out, or would contacting Sony support be of any use?.

Once again any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Chris

I got virgin media, what kind of modem do you have? Have a look at the brand and model number..

Also, how is the moden connected to your laptop? Is it with a usb cable?

ANd ethernet cable might sort out your problems, vista already has ethernet drivers, so very often when you connect with an ethernet cable it will do all the work for you can connect with a few clicks here and there.

from what i gather some virgin customers have had problems on vista with certain older modems
