After working so hard over the last 18 months to clear up my credit file I have just this evening checked my Experian file to fine a bloody CIFAS catagory 4 (application fraud) marker in someone elses name at my address (well the building not the flat!)

Address Used: MY BUILDING NUMBER BUT NO FLAT NUMBER
Date information was recorded: 07/08/2008

Calm down. I had the same thing when I moved into my address about 7 years ago a CIFAS entry appeared on my credit file. It related to the former owner of the property. They had tried to take out a loan application with Black Horse. As this was nothing to do with me I get the alert removed with no problem at all.
Give Experian a ring and explain the situation to them.0 -
Yea, don't worry about it, it will NOT effect your credit rating and it is based on the address not you, I have 3 entries on my files, one because of my sister fudged a bank account application at our parents address, and I have protective registration in my name as I have been a victim of impersonation.Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.0

Both of the previous posters are entirely correct.
A CIFAS stops applications from being automatically accepted. As soon as the person who looks at the application and sees that it is Cat 4 (application had material falsehoods but credit was not issued) and does not apply to you there is nothing to worry about.
I was reading somewhere that de to the amount of credit frauds that the amount of addresses with a CIFAS will continually increase.0 -
If you live in a flat then the only really proactive way to protect yourself from ID Theft (Application Fraud) is to consider the following.
Free ID Protection - There are links to media articles on the Home Page.
(Hoping Martin will add this to 'Ones Not To Miss'0
