I wonder if anybody can help me. I was driving along the other night when my car totally lost power and all the warning lights came on. got over to the hard shoulder and tried to start the car back up. the engine is turning over but just won't start.does occasionally splutter but just wont start. have checked the fuel pump is working and seems fine. oil filter, air filter and oil all changed in September. Anybody got any ideas what the problem could be ???

Your help is really appreciated

When my saxo turns over but won't start its because the imobiliser hasn't disabled.

I doubt that would be your problem but thats all I can think of!

    Sorry!

Oh JESUS, you don't have a Saxo with a keypad imobiliser do you?!?!?

They are notorious for going wrong on the 106's and the Saxos!!!

I have the immobiliser built into the key 99 (T reg) so its not a problem.

If the light goes green then it would appear that its working ok but from what I heard about them i'd still be wary!

Looks like you'll have to take it to a mechanic to check out!

It is very likely to be a poor earth connection , the immobiliser circuit earths to a stud on the gearbox on saxo and 106 with keypad, have a look a the gearbox for an electrical connection, check it is tight, clean it if it is rusty , should sort it out

i have removed the centre console to find where thewires go to but they seem to go under the carpeting. do you know whereabouts the earth for this is situated. i have looked in haynes manual but nothin in there.it does occasionaly splutter which to me suggests that its a fuel problem ????
  • dodgy fuel gauge? pretending you've got fuel in but nothing in there?
i had a caviler do that to me once, i felt a proper chump when i realised.

If your getting spluttering, it sounds like you've got both petrol and ignition (of some sort). Best to try the garage! I had a sensor (MAP) go on my Saxo and it did exactly the same thing (loss of power, wouldn't start).

Cars just aren't as easy to fix as the good old days.
