Did my budgeting last night and if I'm good it looks like I can get my spend a week just under £158. Just as well I have a job! :rolleyes:Come ride with me, through the veins of history...

I graduated in July 2008 and I used to have about £80 a week to spend (not including bills and rent), which was far more than any of my friends had! This was only because my parents gave me £250 a month to live on on top of my maintenance loan (i was only allowed the smallest loan) and it was far more than i needed. I didn't ever struggle for money. I went to leeds Uni and compared to most places leeds is a very cheap place to liveVirtual Sealed Pot challenge #48Sealed Pot Challenge- #7290

What about older students - or/and for people with no family etc.
I find it slightly annoying when people say you only have to 'struggle' for 3 years etc but some students stay with families etc so they have some emotional support/mental boosts/gifts - breaks aways (ie: go home to parents) etc but this isn't the case for older/no family type students - so budgeting has to be all year around (yes, obviously recommend working too).
I'm not necessarily talking about myself as I found that with my part time job and full grants/loans etc meant that I had the same amount of money when I worked full time the year before!! which was great :-))))
this year the money will be a lot lower as the company I'm working is going down the pan - I'm already on one day per week and my course starts in October. Depending on the job market I'm wondering if the 3rd year will be a struggle!!
I would like to know how much other independent mature students spend per week and other students who don't have family of any type.Light bulb moment April 07: [strike]£3,655 [/strike] Oct 07: [strike]£2,220[/strike] now 0 - 3 years of Uni debt to be added at a later datenow at Uni as a Mature student -update: now has a First Class BA!0 -
I aim to stick to £50 a week excluding rent and bills. Which I've done fairly well the last 2 years but it can be a bit tight sometimes. York is my home town though so I understand that it is an expensive place to live. I'm a mature student so do have a small amount of savings if I need them but I really try not to. And I don't have any family to support, I just live with my boyfriend who is also a student.0
