Does anyone know the average cost of solicitor fees for a divorce is. Its gonna be a standard divorce with no complications. 2 young children are also involved.

Depends on whether you agree a financial settlement. My (expensive) experience shows that when your wife sees a solicitor, they can fill their head with unrealistc expectations of finance. Eventually went to a mediation meeting where we agreed a settlement. My solicitor cost £175 p.h and I got to pay for my ex-wifes (although strictly speaking I didn't have to, but as the salary earner, I felt a duty). Total bill was about £10k, and it was reasonably amicable. Sorry!0

So you are saying you need at least £10K minimum for both parties?0

Mine was non-amicable divorce that dragged on for a long while. It cost me in excess of £8,000 just for me. Worth every penny. I dread to think what ex paid.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4

No, it was £10K total.0 -
I went to get advice and was told it would be approx £5,000 - and it would be for an amicable split with no children. The best thing to do is make an appointment with a solicitor and see what they say.😁0

When my DH divorced, his solicitors bill was just under £2500 for an "amicable" split, with one child involved. It should have been more but there was some sort of restriction or ceiling on what they were allowed to charge ( I think it had something to do with being audited at Court) Ex paid her own bill.I have the mind of a criminal genius. I keep it in the freezer next to Mother....0

If it's an amicable divorce and you are both in agreement with the reason for divorce, spilt of assets, care of children etc., you can DIY.
All it costs is the standard court fees, plus a bit of time to fill in all the forms etc. If you need help filling in the forms, the court office staff will help, but they can't offer any advice on the points mentioned above.
I did that and it was much cheaper than getting solicitors involved. Here I go again on my own....0 -
do you get legal aid? Divorce is just the end of a marriage, not a financial settlement (ancilliary relief) or child residence order. These are all separate issues.
Due to legal aid, mine was free. You get it if your income is below a certain level, and you can even be a complete s*** like my ex and give up your 20k a year job on purpose just so you can get legal aid! :rolleyes:Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

Legal aid isn't free.
You solicitors costs are at a reduced rate. You pay back the costs out os you settlement figure or a charge can be put on your house which you pay back on the sale of your house.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4
