Positive balance on MBNA card - Is that OK?

Hi

I have a DD set up on an MBNA CC for the min amount becuase I was on a 0% deal for purchases. The deal will run out at the end of this month so I paid off the full balance online last week. I notice today that they have taken the min payment DD (£10). I just want to check this is ok. I assume my account is now just £10 in credit? I'm sure I'm worrying about nothing, but just want to check

It's only if there is several hundred quid credit that it becomes a problem.

If you're not going to use the card soon, get MBNA to transfer that ten quid to your current account. No problems.

This happened to me in the same situation. I was also wanting to do another BT (well they keep offering) and the cheeky gets wanted to add it onto the BT (ie charge me 3%).

It's probably easier to just go and spend £10 on the card to clear it or even go to a cashpoint and withdraw it. So long as it's definately appeared on your MBNA statement as credit there won't be any interest as you won't be owing them anything.

If they are closing the account though, the fee can usually be taken off on the spot. I assume most banks follow this procedure.

I wouldn't do this because MBNA will charge a cash withdrawal fee even when the balance is positive.

The same thing happened to me. If you ring them they will pay the £10 back into the account they took the DD from. Then cancel the DD if you no longer need to pay them each month.

Pretty standard across the industry though.

The only cards that would not charge are Abbey Zero which offers fee free Cash Withdrawals whether the balance is positive or negative.

Also Egg Money does not charge for Cash Withdrawals when the balance is positive, but it is the only card designed to take a positive balance.
