Hi i have a Linksys router and for years i have only ever used MAC filtering.
This has severed me well and i believe i have a secure connection to my broadband. I have quite a few gagets connecting to my broadband, PC Laptops, PS3, PSP, WII and Iphone etc and i am under the impression that it is secure and no one else can use my connection.
However someone mentioned that MAC filtering was easy to bypass, therefore i ask you how secure is MAC filtering and should i really go to WEP keys etc I dont think anyone is using my connection, but in the world of wireless you just never know!

if someone is serious about using ur wifi then they will get in regardless
wep is a bit old hat these days anyway so i certainly wouldnt use that does ur router have other options?
btw its really nothing to worry aboutThe orginal post in this thread has a very very slim chance of being about money saving. The post is more than likely to ask a question that google could answer better than any of us.0 -
Mac Filtering is not a good well to secure your network, its pretty easy to spoof mac addresses and WEP is very easy to crack with tools of the internet.
WPA can be hacked but takes abit longer and someone who knows what there doing but still a good method to stop most people.0 -
so lets say that i am checking my online balance at HSBC, are you saying that someone could view what i am looking at?
So currently the best option is WPA long key, i dont think my router has WPA its about 4 years old.0
