Christmas Jobs

Hi everyone

I am a student at uni and am looking for a job to keep me over Christmas. My last 3 breaks I've been working for the same company and each time I vowed I wouldn't go back unless I absolutely had to.

Now I don't really care what I'm doing - retail, office, warehouse, whatever. I have found jobs before but was thinking what with it being christmas an' all I could get a retail job because down here they're all looking for staff over this period at the second.

The problem I have is that I'm in Cambridge but won't be over Christmas. What would you recommend? Digging out Yell.com and calling them, taking a weekend trip back home (that would be really welcome), or any other suggestions?

Thanks in advance

A severely overdrawn RichyRich

Some shops advertise on the jobcentre website so i'd recommend having a look on there, i know m&s are on there and their first interview is a telephone one and then they may even let you go for an interview in the cambridge store. Also seen royal mail on the jobcentre asking for mail sorters uk wide for christmas!

Debenhams, house of fraser etc. all have adverts up asking for staff everywhere so you could try the cambridge branches and see if they could sort you out with the bradford ones?

Had (kind of) thought of that with regard to agencies, but not stores for some reason. Strange eh. Thanks a lot!

And stores would have the advantage that you might be able to have a job in both places, one term-time the other vacation!

That;s a good thought although Cambridge University has this archaic idea that nobody should work over term-time because, and I quote, "the majority of your time should be devoted to work"; as if everybody is rich enough not to have to have a job.

  • What about that traditional student employment, the Royal Mail? Looks like you can apply online.... http://www.royalmail.com/portal/rm/content1;jsessionid=BZQBB1UQMVQNWFB2IGDEPLQUHRAYQQ2K?catId=500185&mediaId=21600382
