..by batteries, or does it have to be plugged into a 'mains' source? ie mains electricity supply, car cigarette thingy...

if it didnt have batteries it wouldnt be portable! and most last around 2 hours plus...spanky xx

Look for a higher mAh when buying Rechargeables! The higher it is, the longer it will last. For AA Batteries, you can get about 2500 mAh, and should give you maybe triple the advertised battery life!0 -
the actual batteries(well on my dvd player) are toblerone shaped and the same width of dvd player, they clip on the back and then plug in. hope that helpsspanky xx
