BRITISH GAS - New Caps Promotion ????
We've had a letter from BG this week, saying that we can cap until 2011 ..
Bearing in mind, that Martin has said that the offers to cap had ended, and
that we shouldn't cap at the moment anyway,
I wondered if any other suppliers have reopenned capping, and if
so, are we seeing the start of possible price competition ???
If so, it wouldn't be wise to cap with Brit Gas, would it ??? ???

Hello and welcome to MSE forums..hope you enjoy your stay
I think that BG has done this as I would suspect many customers have flocked in droves to cheaper gas suppliers after the recent 35% increase..so in order for BG to hopefully keep their customers they have possibly introduced the price capping till 2011.0 -
but if you now swap from the 2009 to 2011 I think there are penalty charges so not sure if it is for these people?0

I have just been advised by the energyhelpine to take the capped/Price fix 2011 option that BG are offering, as it is VERY likely there will be another price increase later in the year by all suppliers.
I'm in a dilema as i too am unsure of what to do.

Thank you for your thoughts folks!
So, in summary, should I do the capping thing or not ???
I think, in theory, it is a good idea ..
But then, I don't want to be tied in to BG if someone
else lowers their prices ...
Bit of a conundrum isn't it0 -
I had 2 calls from British Gas yesterday trying to persuade me to switch to them (im with scottish power atm), and the man from BG mentioned your name Martin, he said 'Martin Lewis says that prices are going to go up therefore you should be in a capped rate'
I remembered what you said on the tv about them not being allowed to use your name and immediately said no thankyou i will wait until the prices are level throughout all the companies then I will decide who I am going with. The BG agent got quite uppity with me so I hung up!0 -
mmm ... that's interesting ...
I'm still none the wise about what to do though ..
I wish Martin would put something in his e-mails about this!!
(hint hint! lol)0
