Green Wheelie Bin "too far" from kerb

Options
10yards, 25 yards, 50 yards? - No, 18 inches !

Is it any wonder why people dump stuff in the hedgerows - this is the same bunch (my local "council" !!!) who refused to collect another bin because it was "too heavy".

PS: The Council's "rules" say you musn't block the pavement either !

He probably didn't have the correct political poster in his window at election time, or god forbid forgot to tip the dustmen at Xmas.

...are the days when a bunch of chain-smoking scruffy donkey-jacketed flat-cap wearing middle-aged blokes would quietly open your garden gate, walk down your garden path or driveway, pick up a heavy round dustbin, heave it onto their back and carefully walk all the way to their lorry, take off the lid and tip the contents into the back of it (without first rummaging through the bin's contents in order to illegally "fine" you for putting into it something that the neo-Marxist New Labour voting dungaree clad green wellie wearing scum don't want you to) then returning the now empty bin to where it was found.
And closing the gate after them, of course.

    moonrakerz,
Surely the Council are wrong to use those dimensions; should it not be 45.72cm from the kerb?

Well............ it was the Telegraph that mentioned inches; WWDC told him " binmen would only remove the bin if it was within one metre (3.28ft) of the kerb".

However ......................... The legal units of distance on Britain's roads are still Imperial, it is actually a criminal offence to put up a sign in metres or kilometres. It is quite permissable to use metric measures to indicate the dimensions of an object but in this case we are talking of a distance not a dimension.
Therefore the Telegraph was quite correct and WWDC were incorrect (as usual !).

You mean gone are the days when we could put out rubbish without having to use a tape measure. :(

I meant that gone are the days when people in the main did not have to put out rubbish, they had it taken out by people who were paid to do it, council refuse collectors.

Good, they should leave no stone unturned in the war against global terror.
After the uprising of the 17th June The Secretary of the Writers Union
Had leaflets distributed in the Stalinallee Stating that the people
Had forfeited the confidence of the government And could win it back only
By redoubled efforts. Would it not be easier In that case for the government
    To dissolve the people
    And elect another?

Where we live, they have been caught rummaging through recycle bins and taking photographs of "contraband" items, then threatening errant householders with fines (not sure how many have been fined to date).

It does not bother me too much now as I have given up playing their stupid games and simply burn just about everything remotely combustable (paper, plastic bottles) and chuck the rest into my normal bin. The recycle bin is used as a water butt. The neighbours on both sides also burn rather than recycle to avoid risking the fines.

In the meantime, the council write to us telling us not to put food out for the birds as it attracts vermin, yet are happy to leave rubbish festering in bins for two weeks at a time (and 4 weeks if you are unfortunate to have your scheduled collection day fall on a bank holiday). Not bad for nearly £2000/year council tax.
  • You do realise that if for instance, household rubbish goes into a garden waste bin for instance, the whole load is contaminated, it cant go for recycling and therefore has to go to landfill, the cost changes, in our local area, from£40 a ton to £240 a ton of general waste. So thats why they check through the bins. I'm sure the same applies to other types of recycling bins.
