Uninstalling “trial” Norton software on a new laptop?

I have a VAIO laptop which has Norton Anti-virus and system backup software trails preinstalled. I want to either install the BT Total Broadband protection software (which I think is also Norton) or AVG, but I need to get rid of the Norton software on the laptop first of all (BT says to uninstall any anti-virus software before installing their products).

I am not sure how to get the Norton trial software off the laptop… do I just uninstall it via the “add programs” utility, or do I need to run an uninstall program from the Norton site? I haven’t activated the Norton software, but it is showing when I go into the add programs…

Many thanks for any advice on this :D
