AS levels and remarking.

I'll try and post this in the right place this time!
Basically I got a C,D,E and U today for my AS levels. The one I got a U in is not only my favourite (spanish) but also the easiest exam, I found!
I got U's across all three modules BUT
Unit 1 - 1 mark off an E
Unit 2 - 2 marks off an E
Unit 3 - I new I failed, it was impossible so i'm happy to resit.

So, do I get units one and 2 remarked? It will cost £24 to get them both done, baring in mind I have to pay for resits anyway. Or do I just leave them and hope for the best when I resit?
Has anyone had any experience with getting papers remarked, and did they go in your favour?

Thanks :)

When you have papers remarked the grade can go up or down!

what were your predicted grades? be honest with yourself - do you feel the grades you've recieved were a fair judge of your performance? if you were planning on resitting anyway, i personally wouldn't bother with the remark unless i thought i had been significantly marked down. spend the money you would have spent on second marking on revision materials to help you do better next time.

I would. These count as predictive marks get sent to your unis, you could can get an interview or not on these grades. Sorry to be harsh, but if I was in your position I would certainly get them remarked if you were that close.

If you found the Spanish easy, might you have misread it completely? My daughter got an A grade but didn't find it easy at all!
She had a module remarked last year, and it went from a D to a B-but other students papers remarked hardly changed and I think I remember 1 going down.

I don't think you have much to lose apart from £24 as you can't go down much further than a U. Remarking makes sense in your situation.

But it's the total of the three modules that counts as the overall grade, not an average of the grades. Unless a few extra marks will push you over the grade boundry to an E (or you think you've been significantly undermarked), then you'd be better off re-sitting.
  • A number of good points have been raised so far. If the marks you obtained are close to those you were predicted then perhaps it wouldn't be worth the remark. On the other hand, these grades will be declared to any of the Universities that you apply to through UCAS (if you plan on going to University) so if you think that you did a lot better than your grades depict then I'd say a remark would be a chance worth taking. You can still choose to take the resits regardless of the decision. Paying for the remark may show Universities the genuine shock you had with the grades you obtained... and you may even be able to get your tutors to mention that as part of your personal statement, which may work slightly in your favour.

  • At dd`s school we had to pay to resubmit AS health and social care course work in Jan, 12 quid each i think but she did go from an D and a E to an A and a B. (She got 82% in the exam) To get the pieces remarked would have cost over £300 as the whole class would have had to be remarked. She declined the grade and eventually ended up with a B at a2. (two marks off an A grade!)
