Nikon lenses are excellent and I get fantastic pictures from my Nikon coolpix 4100.
You would be able to get a good one of these from ebay for about £50.0 -

has a big table listing which ones use USB Mass Storage. They say avoid Casio. Canon generally doesn't use USB Mass Storage.0
