Just Graduated , Left Job - JSA?

Hi guys,

Graduated this summer and found a sort of too-good-to-be-true job within the first week and alas, it turned out to mislead grossly in the job description, so I left, no questions asked.

However, while I am in the process of finding another, more researched job, I am finding money very scarce.

Never thought I'd ask for JSA, but it would really come in handy at the moment, while in-between jobs.

My question is; am i eligible? How much for? How long does it take to start kicking in, from application to first payment?

Much appreciated, thanks.

Can you elaborate on why you left your previous job? If you left without good reason, it is likely that you will receive a JSA sanction, so meaning that you will not receive any payment for up to 26 weeks.
    Gone ... or have I?

    I left because:

    a) misleading job description. It turned out to be different than described.
    b) was spending almost as much travelling there as I was earning (not literally, but close enough to invalidate its worth)

    Thanks!

and does going on JSA appear on my record or whatever? I don't want potential future employers turning their noses up at me because I had a brief stint of JSA..?

You'd maybe have to account for a gap in your employment history.

What do you mean? As in, explain what I lived on while out of employment?

I see, but I only plan on being out of employment for a maximum of two months.. I could just say my Mum/Dad were supporting me??

    Provided they can't check..?
  • Why are you so ashamed of JSA? If you're so concerned then don't put in for it - tad hypocritical otherwise.

How about you don't comment in this thread unless you're responding directly to my questions?

But I will satisfy your burning curiosity with an answer... Just so you can feel fulfilled for the rest of your day. It's not that "I" am ashamed of JSA, but simply a case of what my future employer thinks about JSA'ers. Do you understand???

Besides, I asked a perfectly suitable and valid question, if you'd care to take the time to re-read it:

I cannot see, in any of my posts, any evidence of me saying or implying that I, personally, am ashamed of jumping on to JSA.

    Anything else HGLTsuperstar? !!!!!.

What is this!? I ask for general, uncomplicated help and I would expect courteous and unbiased help/tips/comments. Am i wrong to have assumed that?

Why (above poster) have you "thanked" that guy for his post??? It was neither helpful, nor relevant and in my opinion, it was a rash post.

And more importantly of all, his post was completely flawed.. As I explained in my previous post, his comments were cmpletely unjustified and had nothing to do with what I wrote...

So why did you thank him for his post?
  • netgear11 I'm sorry to say but alot of people here do not think much of those that quit jobs and expect the tax payer to pull them up when they need it for what ever reason. I know alot of places make people quit rather than laying off/firing people so it's not really right but you left for what I would say is a rather good reason. After all if a person gets mislead with a phone contract/mortgage etc people would complain and leave most likely. I do not blame you too much for what you have done. It may have been beter to have had another job in line before quiting though  . It really is easier to get another job if you have one already.

On the JSA front people who have left their job usually have to wait for a few weeks at least for JSA to be available I do not think it is as high as up to 26 weeks but I may be wrong. I can not ask my ma on that as she is away at the moment. Looking into temp work at an agency may be a way of keeping yourself afloat if JSA is not given but it isn't usually good money or good work to be honest with you. You can but ask about the JSA but do not get offended if they say you are not entittled to it as you are voluntarily unemployed as far as they are concerned I'd say.

    I hope you the best.
