student loans are not missold, there are tonnes of articles, websites, forms etc. associated with the student loan and if you'd bothered to read them you'd know that the rate goes up (or down) with real interest rates and that it's not free money - it's a loan and it needs paid back.

the best terms to a loan that anyone will ever get in their life (family lending money aside) and still it's unfair?

Be fair, the OP never said they thought it was unfair...they were just trying to see if they could use "misselling" as a reason to get out of paying it back...not the same thing ;)

fair comment - but it's still an attitude that stinks!

With respect I have never stated that I am trying to get out of repaying the loan. Indeed, I have virtually repaid the whole lot.

What I was looking to see was if others have investigated whether misselling occured, and what the outcome was.

As to my reasons why, they are my own. Certainly with a straw poll from some of my freinds they think that there were some fairly sharp sales tactics going on at the time

Nobody was "sold" a student loan, they were offered it. In fact, since you took it out the threshold for repayment has been raised by 50% so that fewer people have to repay it. It's unfortunate that inflation has increased and raised the interest rate but you're still only repaying the actual amount you borrowed, in real terms.

i guess the question is what else could have been used to allow access to university? if it was unecessary and there were better alternatives, then ok, it may not have been the best thing. certainly for those paying fees, paying for uni yourself is rarely an option, even with parental help.

perhaps a reality check on the terms of commercial loans is required?

I'm confused at who would be doing the fairly sharp sales tactics? I took out my student loan in 2001 so within a similar time frame to the OP. There weren't any salesmen involved. From what I remember the school had leaflets/info about student loans alongside lots of other FE/HE/work options.

I worked it all out by reading these leaflets and google. I imagine I probably talked about it with friends and my dad but there were any 'salesmen' involved. Not sure who you would be complaining to for miselling...unless I can sue my friends for speculating about it with me!!
