claiming tax on fuel at work back

Hi guys, i was speaking to a mate of mine and he tells me that i could claim the difference between what work pay me per mile and 43p from the tax man is this ture?

if so where can i find out how to go about this ?

    Not quite, you can claim back the tax (ie 20 or 40%) on the difference between what your firm pay and 40p. If you use the search feature on this site there are loads of threads on it :-)

    Yesterday in the post we received from HMRC a pile of forms P87 dating back to tax year 2002-2003 so that we can claim this tax relief for my wife.
    For the year ending 5 April 2008 you can download it and print it yourself here:
    http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/forms/p87.pdf
    and send it to your employers tax office.
    If you want to claim for previous years (up to 6 years ago) you need to call your employers tax office and ask them to send you the forms - which is what we have just done.
    Your employers tax office should be shown on payslips and P60's, you might be able to get your personnel dept. to give you the phone number. I managed to find the number on the internet and call them.
