Chewing gum in front door lock

Dear all,

Husband came home last night and said there seemed to be some lint in our front door lock - tried getting it out with keys (pushed it in further - grrr!) but it's lint that's sticky and smells of mint - so I'm presuming some kids have pushed chewing gum in there!

Keys seem to work Ok today, so not that disasterous - but does anyone have any ideas on getting it out?

Thanks!

errrm! not so sure if this would work, but I know to get chewing gum off clothes is best to "cool" it down. So I am thinking of that spray you can get for muscle strains and aches and pains I think it's called PR Spray [dont quote me on the name]. Its a freezing spray so I guess you could spray some into the lock and try putting the key in and it may come out with it???
There again it may harden it up and cause the key to not go in.

Up to you on this one.

or just use a load of WD40 can spray it may break it down.

  • take the lock out, its not hard (well 9 time out of 10 its a doddle) put lock in freezer and pick out

Or if its a upvc door a new lock will be a couple of quid

PLEASE do not fit the really cheap cylinders for UPVC doors. They are tripe. I speak as someone who's work consists of about 60% locksmithing. The cheap ones, are often the wrong length (yes it does matter greatly), have no antidrill, anti-pick or anti snap features. They are often the softest metal and wear quickly! ask ANY locksmith!
