Spitting Mad with Barclaycard Oik!

I am v. cross. I checked my Barclaycard statement this month only to see that I have somehow paid 50p interest (I have 0% BT and purchse card). On closer inspection this was due to a charge of £21 for payment protection. This was despite my clearly stating on the application that I did not want PPI and also when I was called by a Barclaycard oik two months ago, I also clearly stated to him that I didn't want it. When I checked back, I have also paid for PPI last month too (should have checked more closely earlier, but it was the interest charge that caught my notice).

I was fairly spitting nails, as I have on two occasions stated I did not want the PPI and, thinking the worst, I can only assume the oik added the PPI to get his bonuses.

I called Barclaycard and to be fair they did promise to refund the two payments I have made and any interest paid, but it makes me mad that this bloke has done this.

Has anyone else had this happen?

Not with B'card, but with e2save when I bought a BT mobile in August. I rejected their offer of 3 months free insurance, but soon received a welcome pack from some insurance co., so I now have the hassle of cancelling that before the free insurance becomes ridiculously expensive unwanted insurance.
I was also clobbered by Egg for a huge amount (£70 odd)of unwanted payment protection insurance (on a large BT), on TWO separate occasions. I rang to complain and was fully refunded both times, but it's very dodgy practice in my book

I have had this happen a few times, but it has been retified after my first complaint except the Halifax who after 3 months have not repaid me the money that they took without my permission. :'(
  • ..I can maybe understand an honest mistake, but if, as it seems, this is happening regularly, I would report it to the Financial Services Authority (FSA).

After discussing this with a friend of mine over the weekend, she told me that when she was working for a well known financial services company, one of her colleagues was continually adding the PPI to accounts to get his bonuses, and leaving the complaints department to clear up the mess. Apparently he was on quite a little earner and as people generally did not remember his name after they has told him a firm 'no', he did this for at least a year before he was caught.

isn't that not fraud? if some other company charged your CC without your permission and you reported it, it'd be a different story altogether
  • Similar thing happened to me but even worse.
When I first started this moneysaving bit, I applied for the barclaycard O% for life offer.
I had an existing Barclaycard that I had transferred that balance off and was empty.
I got a call from BC saying did I want a 0% for life offer, I explained that I had applied already, and he explained that this was a different offer on my existing card that was empty.
The long and short of it was that he put my limit up there and then, did a balance transfer from the other card a Bank of Scotland visa.
He also chased up my other 0% application for the new card, said I'd got it and it was on it's way.
BUT! the balance transfer was not at 0% at all, when I got my bill I was charged interest I phoned them immediatly, was told I must have been mistaken as there was no such offer, I argued that was what I was told as we were talking at crossed purposes about the other 0% offer, I was told there was nothing I could do about it as the call was not recorded and I didn't get his name.
It ended up costing me and there was still a couple of interest free months on the BOS card that I lost out on.
I told them to take me off their mailing list and will NEVER accept any offers over the phone.
I know reading this makes me look like a stupid Bimbo, but you do tend to feel safe with a name such as Barclaycard.
I am starting to get more calls, when they say all cheerfull Hi I'm calling from so n so financial place, do you have a minute? I say all cheerful, that depends if you are going to try and sell me payment protection or overpriced insurance or not.
They don't have much to say to that!
    Waddle you do eh?
