halifax £25 late fee but paid on time!!!!!!!!

in Credit cards
I have a Halifax credit card to which I set up a standing order from my Bank (Abbey) to pay the minimum monthly payment.
The first two months was paid without problem, put the third month I received a letter from the Abbey saying they could no longer make a payment as the sort code had changed.
Because I only had a few days to organize my next payment I rang the Halifax up to ask them how I could make payment without incurring a late payment fee. The person I spoke to explained because the payment needed to be paid that day and I would need to visit a Halifax branch and pay cash over the counter.
I therefore carried out this instruction and thought no more of it.
I have just received my statement to which I have a £25.00 late fee.
I have rang Halifax and explained what I was told, they told me that was correct but I did not make payment before 16:00hrs so this is not the same day!!!!!!!
I explained that I was not informed of this rule so it was not my fault. They then said they would go half way and credit my account with £12.50.
I again told them I was not happy and I was not going half payment with them.
Even though I was unaware for this super stupid 16:00hrs ruling, I am positive I made this payment before 16:00hrs.
Has anyone had this problem, or if you have any advice, it seems this bank has lost the plot when it comes to customer service.

Not sure how you manage to pay a variable minimum payment by standing order - but my advice would be to pay it by direct debit. That way they can never charge for late-payment, even if they collect the direct debit late.andy9808w wrote:...or if you have any advice ....0 -
If you paid over the counter there should be a reciept of some kinda that states what time Halifax recieved the money. And I think you're very lucky, normally it takes 3-5 days for money to go from the Counter at Halifax to the credit card account.:A Boots Tart :A0

My guess would be that the S/O was set for an amount which would always be greater than the minimum payment.charlieboycat wrote:Not sure how you manage to pay a variable minimum payment by standing order
I would almost always recommend setting up a minimum payment D/D for any credit card. Unless you've got a full payment D/D
