T-Mobile and the Virtual networks that use the T-Mobile infrastructure, such as Virgin Mobile, M&S, Fresh for example don't use the BT SMS system, hence you have to call the T-Mobile system to manage SMS from those providers.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

OK you turn off the sms service on your home phone, does the sender know its been refused?
i sent a text to my home and nothing has happened at all
  • We recieved one of these 08456021111 calls.

I tried to contact BT, spoke to the nuisance call line. A very impolite young man told it was not a nuisance call even though my curfew was active and that I had to call the BT customer service when the opened .

Not a nuisance call 05.17am on New Years Morning, he must have come from another planet.

I'm glad we are with Virgin!!

If you are with Virgin, then why contact BT?

Maybe I've missed something here, but at New Year, people tend to send each other text messages wishing the recipients a "Happy New Year". Was this the purpose of this message? And, if so, perhaps the sender either sent it at 05:17 or minutes or hours before. When text messages are sent they are delivered straight away, subject to network capacity/availability. They don't tend to wait until daylight hours to appear on the receiver's phone.

As advised above, call 0800 587 5252 to opt out of receiving SMS messages to your landline, whether with BT or Virgin Media.

Just received yet another silly SMS text message from 0800 12140702 to my BT landline even though I'd opted to stop 'cold' calls via Telephone Preference Service. BT were very helpful and advised opting out using their text service facility:
    1. Ring 0800 587 5252
    2. Select option 1 to manage when / if calls are received
    3. Select option 5 to stop calls completely

It takes just 20 minutes from changing preferences for this to kick in. Fingers crossed it works.

Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
