Hi Everyone,
I hope you dont mind me posting this here, but I need some advice. I am 26 in october and I am currently doing a foundation degreee in information technology over here in the UK. The things I am learing in this are:
Introduction to Computer Architecture
Visual Programming Tools
Information Systems & Tools
Systems Analysis and Design
Introduction to Object Oriented Programming
Multimedia on the Web
Database Design and Development
Networks
Web Programming
Operating Systems
Intranet Implementation
IT Management
Organisations and their IS requirements
Intranet Project
The problem I have is I love I.T every aspect of it and If I could I would love to learn everythink there is in the I.T world. After doing my Degreee I dont really know what to do as there are so many things I would like to learn. It's a bit like a big mindfield with all the different certificates
ECH
CHFI
MCSE
MCSA
MCP
COMPTIA A+ NET+ SERVER
CISCO CCNA CCNP CCIE CCSP IPS CISSP
Just to mention a few, so I wanted some advice from people who are in the insdutry in what the best thing to do. Find one area and learn that to the best of your ability or learn as much as you can in different areas. Am I better to get a job after uni and try to get them to pay for additional course's or should I go stright into another course?
any advice would be very helpful and I thank you all in advance
Jamie

What aspect of IT do you want to go into? A foundation course opens a lot of opportunities to you, but do you want to do sysadmin type work or do you want to specialise?
At 18 I was very much in your predicament but I went into software engineering and haven't looked back.0 -
Yah Problem is I love it all love programming really into security love into riping computer apart and fixing them that thing I like it all.So it very hard to kinder narrow it down.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. Well I am crap at math but speak Visual Basic 6 and COM, currently learning the .NET CLR and C#, done some C stiff and PIC Assembler coding too, C# is the the one though, unless you want to do embedded microcontroller stuff which you should learn C, Assembler and PIC Basic. Also do SQL 2000/2005, Pervasive and a bit Oracle database server build too.Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.0

I work in IT as a IT Support/Network Engineer and do alot of Visual software development too, I am self taught and currently studying compTIA A+, L+, N+ and S+ via Skills Train open learning, I can setup small WAN's, site to sit VPN, AdHoc VPN do alot with CISCO Security appliances but I am not qualified, if I had my CCNA or whatever I could easy clear £40-£60K per year, but a victim of my own self study success so I settle for £19K per year instead, go for it and get them qulaifications man, you will not regret it.Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want?
