As the title suggests, a cuppa has been knocked over the lappy. I put it in the airing cupboard, but after 2 days, nothing is happening.
I shall contact the insurance company tomorow, but is everything lost? I'm mainly thinking about the photos, as I hadn't gotten around to storing the latest 100 or so on a memory stick. Are they really irretrievable?

I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.
Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.

If your lucky then the drive may be fine (you just need to get it out and into a USB Caddy.)
See what the insurance company says
Then you might want to take a look at "2.5 USB drive caddies". you can pick them up for under £10 on ebay / Amazon.
Then you take the drive out (it should be simple) and put it in the caddy. then plug it into the PC you are currently using. If everything goes well then you will have access to everything on the drive.Laters

Oh thank you, that's wonderfully reassuring.I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.

I have just stripped down our laptop and re assembled it, due to a loose USB connector and clean the fan and re applied some heat compound to the cpu/heatsink. Looking into where a cup of tea goes, it will go to the lowest place, under the pc motherboad, lots of places for it to go. The sugar is the biggest problem. My laptop came apart ok, a compaq, and went back even easier. The keboard may need another soaking in cleaner and the unit stripped right down and washed also in board cleaner from Maplins, etc.
The hard drive is pretty well sealed and should be ok, a cable adaptor (from Maplins approx. £5) will allow the 2.5" drive to be attached to a desktop pc via the IDE cable.0 -
I repaired a laptop with similar symptoms but with sticky coffee instead of tea, I stripped the Mac down and cleaned everything with white spirit or whatever is its substitute, self dries and reassemble everything cushty again, give it ago.
Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.0
