MSEers, Would You Consider This?

Has anyone here switched over? Bearing in mind it costs about £100 to do your CBT to allow you to drive up to 125cc bikes/scooters with L plates on, about £100 if you are going to buy a decent helmet and say, £750 for a 2nd hand Japanese bike/scooter (So yamaha, suzuki, kawasaki, honda) and probably £200 ish, maybe less for insurance.
Would you trade your car in for a bike?
Also, my YBR125 does about 90mpg.

You can be the best rider in the world and you still have to deal with numpty pensioners and bad drivers. My best friend got knocked off his bike in his teens by a granny "who didn't see him" and pulled out on him = 6 months in traction. 20 years later the same happened (last year). Grandad didn't see him. The difference now is that he has kids so he's hung up his leathers for good. The man without a signature.0

I'm giving up my bike.
Simple reasons - It returns 35mpg on my commute. Yet, I can't remember the last time I did 70 on it, I normally cruise in lane 3 at 100+, and I've had too many near misses with drivers.
70 quickly becomes slow, 80 then becomes slow and the speed increases.
Its no cheaper to run for me than using public transport, insurance is £300, but I do so many miles fuel and servicing makes up the difference.
Consider the other side, that a seat on the train is much less stressful, I think I'll spend the winter reading the Metro, then I'll buy an R1 and wheelie enjoy next spring
By the way if anyone feels the need to go on about my speeding feel free, I've no killed any kittens and I sleep easy at night.0 -

You stay dry on a motorbike, decent kit keeps rain out and warmth in. I've riden through snow and not been cold.
You are 150 times more likely to be stuck in traffic in a car, than on a motorcycle.

If you're a responsible biker and wear leathers during the summer you end up with sweaty nads and dripping in sweat!

So by your reasoning, as soon as you become pensioner you will turn into a "numpty" and stop driving immediately because of that?
I bet you continue being a numpty and continue driving when the time comes and probably still think you're the best thing on four/two wheels. 0
