When I stand peeling and slicing veg I often get back ache so I need a faster way any ideas to make the process quicker?

Sensible answer here - get a decent peeler that you can get on with. I always used Lancashire peelers (obviously
) but I then bought one of the Oxo soft grips one. Took about a week to get used to it, but now I can peel my veg so fast as the peeler slices straight through the peel. I'd also do the job somewhere more comfy - sitting down at the table or with everything on a tray. Either that or do it in shorter stints. I also get back ache when standing at the sink too long, but I don't have a kitchen table so that's not an option for me.

My Auntie gets the plastic washbasin from the kitchen and a pan. Sits in comfy chair in the livingroom, basin on her knee and pan on the floor and peels the veg there. Peeled veg goes into pan and the peelings go in the basin. This way she is only standing for the actual chopping - added bonus is she doesn't miss her programme!!

If I have a lot of veg to peel I usually take two basins through to the lounge, one for peelings and one for the veg, no back ache/aching legs with standing over a too low kitchen sink. I also sit down when I do ironing, why the heck make things difficult for yourself, and make yourself tired quicker. Don't forget that a lot of potato things can be cooked with the skins left on, just a quick scrub and rinse to get the earth off, and pick over any obvious nasties with the point of a sharp knife. I have a Lakeland plastic scrubbing thing (like a tiny string bag) that gets the dirt off really easily.
Don't think this would work for mash, although even that might be worth a try...;) .I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

like a julienne cutter? I got one of those and it is nice to cut the carrots thinly, especially when whacking them in a slow cooker. When the carrots are normal chunks i end up having to par boil them first. if i use the julienne cutter then i can put them straight in the slowcooker. Got my julienne cutter from lakeland recently.0 -
i sit at the kitchen table and peel mine with a peeler over a widemouthed bowl. when i'm finished i gather up all the peelings and put them in a bag in the freezer (usually an old bread bag) to use later when i want to make stock. i use up any peelings (rarely have them but when i do) tops and tails, juice, bones, skin etc to make stockfounder of Frugal Genius UK (Yahoo Groups)0
