How best to invest/save £100,000?

Hi there,
I'm looking for some advice about what's best to do with £100,000. I'm not wanting to invest it all, but not looking to save it all either since I'm going to need access to some of it to pay rent etc. on a monthly basis. I realise that splitting it up into amounts across different banks is 1 way of securing my savings, but I'm clueless about investing. Any suggestions for good savings accounts or investments?
