Match.com Rip Off

Has anyone else been ripped off by match.com?

i signed up for one month's membership. Now this was more expensive than 3 months or 6 months worked our per month but I wasn't sure it was for me and it wasn't.

Little did I know in the hidden small print on an icon if you scroll down the sign up page you are giving them permission to automatically renew your subscription by giving them yr bank details. So I have been charged for two months before I noticed and cancelled and complained. I hate it when companied do this. I just wanted to buy one month and they have misled me and then taken money again without even informing me. Has anyone else had a similar problem or got their money back?

It was in the small print so i guess i don't have a leg to stand on and it could have been worse. If i had signed up for six months and not cancelled it they would have taken another £66. Any advice money savers?

I know it is no help to you now, but most subscription websites work in the same way. If you don't cancel your subscription before the end of the period, they automatically debit your card for another term.

It is always stated in the small print but who reads that? I know I don't!
    :p
  • Same thing happened to a friend of mine. You have to make sure you cancel in advance or they automatically renew. Lesson learned I guess right.

  • Kind of unrelated, but I have sympathy for you. I recently froze my gym membership while away and they said fine, frozen and no costs until you restart it. What I hadnt realized was the small print,,,,,,got to freeze/cancel before 16th of the month or the nxt payment is taken. Now I always read small print. Got ya self a lil blue admirer so match dot com worked kinda hehe

I've actually encountered the same problem with my 24Hour Fitness membership as well as my cell phone monthly fees. My dad gave me a two month trip to Thailand for my college graduation gift and I was not planning on using either for those two months. Both charged me for the first month, never said anything about the accounts having to be frozen before a particular date. I was angry, but it was in both contracts. Sucks, but at the same time I'm amazed my cell phone provider let me freeze it at all.
