When you have family members who have lots of money...

Hi,
sounds like you have a few issues at the moment which is fairly typical of coming to terms with having a LBM  .
I too have a family who are all very solvent compared to me, I also have enough inheritance due to clear my debts, but fortunately it's all tied up in property & stuff that I cant get my hands on. Any of my family could clear my debts but I have no intention of asking them because :
I'm over 18, nobody's responsibility but my own & my debts are of my own doing, irrespective of the circumstances which led me there.
I'm going to clear them myself, learn my lesson & feel very proud when I've finally done it. I think it's called growing up
Good luck, you're in the right place for support & encouragement, try joining in with challenges & savings - it really is fun
Best wishes

I'm in a similar situation. My inheritance is tied up in property (mine) and an uncle's.
I'm going to clear my debts and I am learning the hard way. It's horrible being here but I'm sure I'm going to come out the other side better with money. And I'm determined to do it.Debt 30k in 2008.:o Cleared all my debt in 2013 and loving being debt free
Mortgage free since 2014

Yep it drives me mad, dad paid off my sister's overdraft, gave her a monthly amount while she was at uni, is always giving her little bits and pieces. He wont help me because (I think) he's disappointed in me, he thinks I've chosen to be disabled and on benefits, he doesn't believe that ME or bipolar exist and therefore there's nothing wrong with me. But I'm still expected to run around after the family helping them out at my own expense.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0

We are in the same boat. My family are very wealthy. My sister and brother both live in 6 bed country houses. My Mum and dad have Villas and houses scattered all over the world. Me I have a 3 bed semi but a very loving family. But I've realised over time that the big houses and Villas don't make people happy. My Sisters family life is very poor and my brother seems to be in a loveless relationship and not happy. My Mum and dad do have plenty of spare capital but they have earnt it and deserve it. My mistakes are my own and I won't ask for a penny. I will pay of my debts and make sure that I do not make the same mistakes again. I have already paid of 20k so it is possible. The only problem I have is when we go away together and they want to travel in limo's and stay at 5 star hotels..but hey that's is there prerogative and if they can afford it then so be it. We just tag along when possible or make excuses if we can not afford it. One day things will even themselves out and we'll be stronger for the experience. MET
