Is there a way to upgrade my processor from 1.73GHz to 1.8GHz for free?

Options
Hi,

I don't know a thing about the tech side of computers but I need to use my laptop for work but they said I need a 1.8GHz processor, but my laptop only has a 1.73GHz. Is there a way to do this for free? I only bought the laptop brand new in Feb!! My laptop is an: acer aspire 5715Z if that helps.

If anyone has any info on this please get back.

Thanks,

Lee.

1.73 is close enough to 1.8GHz already, so I doubt you need to do anything.

  • What have they said you need it for, I assume as software package but which one?

There is a process called "OverClocking" it involves changing setting in the BIOS to speed up a processor.

It can KILL Processors and laptops! (overheat parts / melt laptops!!)

    Faster Process = Hotter laptop
Hot laptop = lower lifespan for components

Desktop users do it all the time but they have room in the case to get serous cooling equipment inside! but In a laptop there is no room!!

I'd stick to what you got! you won't notice the speed difrence!

Lie it on its back and tickle its belly till you hear the disc drive speed up.

Flip it over and enjoy your new supercomputer.;)

    Appologies leeroy17.

Hope you don't mind me asking a quick question.

What difference does the GHz make?

It's the processer clock speed. Each operation on the CPU takes a certain amount of clock cycles, so the faster the clock the quicker it runs (in principle).

It just enables your computer to do more things at the same time.
RAM stores the temporary data while your using a programme, and enables quick access to it. Your processor actually does all the processes, and so a higher frequency (GHz) means more/faster.

I've just had a look to see if that processor can be upgraded and everywhere online says it's a 1.6GHZ not 1.73GHZ.
