My laptop is about to die, so I need to buy one in the very near future.
I'm looking for an ultra-light model (under 2kg). I don't need it to be very powerful. I have a G5 PowerMac desktop for the fancy stuff. I just need a basic reliable PC laptop that runs Windows.
Basically, something better than the new toy laptops (Asus, etc), but cheaper than the ultra-thin Vaios and the like.
I've looked at the Dell XPS M1330. It looks ok, but I hate the idea of buying a Dell without a discount.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Whats wrong with the existing one?
My current laptop a 2-year-old cheapo Acer. It takes 10 minutes to start up (and yes, I've done everything I could think of to speed it up). When it does start up, it works incredibly slowly. The wi-fi doesn't work. It used to be ok. Now it connects to the network but doesn't actually work. When I check at the 'packets' of data sent/received, it in the tens.
Oh, and the screen half is about to fall off. There's an actual crack going from the hinges. I've never had this happen to a laptop before. I'm not the most careful user in the world, but I've never dropped it or anything like that.
I'm afraid that it will die before I get a new one, and I'll be laptop-less.
What about the Packard Bell Easy Note BG45-U-300? It only weighs 1.6kg. It has a 12" screen, which is small, but I don't need it any bigger, really. And £399 is in my budget.0
