hsbc customer, will they credit check?

I've been a customer of HSBC for some time now and have a savings of £40K with them, would they still need to check my CRA file if I applied for their credit card?

yes as having savings with them doesnt mean that you dont owe 50,000+ to other people

I have an HSBC joint current account with my wife. A couple of years ago I was sent a letter telling me that I was pre-selected to recieve a hsbc gold card with a pre-approved limit of 12K(about double what any other card had given me previously). All I had to do was sign the application form and that was it! No other info was needed as they had based their decision on information they had already known about me. I was not complaining and thought ok maybe they did a credit check and were being extremely generous. Well imagine my surprise when with about a month left of my 0% BT with them, my wife recieved an identical letter apert from it being addressed to her. They were wanting to give my wife with zero income a cc with £12000 limit! Well she was not complaining either and got the card as promised. So in our case it looks like they either did not take notice of the credit check or did not bother doing one at all.

When we did not have credit cards before, 5 years ago. We could not get one. All of them are declining us. It's catch 22. You can only get appoved for a credit card if you have one already.

But HSBC, gave us £5k limit right away. We ended up cutting the card and closing the account after a year because we were trying to cut our expenses.

NOw that we are more 'able' we want to give the business to HSBC rather than the other banks as they have been very generous to us when no one wanted our business.
