Omigod, people, I am really mortified for having unintentionally created this situation.
In effect, re-reading the stuff that Cullumpster put on, I have to say that some of those claims are waaaay out!!!
But, please, do not throw away the baby with the bath water, as there might be some serious fact among the junk about wheatgrass and spirulina.
I think it is important to remember that articles like that on the internet are meant to sell the stuff so they would wildly exhaggerate claims. Crana9 pointed out a real truth when she said that most of it is mumbo-jumbo, but don't we all get taken in sometimes? Important lesson learnt!
There must be some good, sound alternative therapies websites or other sources around, with the facts not exhaggerated. Also, there are always differences in thinking between 'official science' and alternative medicine, so if one comes from a medical background, say, they will find a lot of even good serious stuff to sound like mumbo-jumbo.
Moral of the story: careful about what we find on the internet!
Sorry sorry sorry again :-[ :-[ :-[

its ok caterina, don't worry. it was helpful in its way, its made us all think more before we decide something, and i do think it prob does some good, just maybe not all of the ones it says. ;D0

And even if they don't produce enough sex hormones, it's not very likely that this is because they are very deficient in magnesium. So saying "eat wheatgrass if you're infertile because some farmers give it their cows" is just very, very odd.
Crana9, I am with you with everything you say but just wanted to refer to your quote and not criticising your point at all - but if we think like that, we should consequently also disapprove of animal testing (I do, but many many poeple don't). Makes sense?

Yes, I see what you mean, although they are slightly different situations. I am not in favour of animal testing either unless there is absolutely no alternative.
For one thing, if we know that a major cause of infertility in cattle is magnesium deficiency, then it makes sense to supplement their diets. But since this is not a major cause of infertility in humans, the recommendation doesn't transfer.
If however it was found that a particular chemical boosted bulls' sperm count, it might do the same thing in humans, and low sperm count is a major cause of human infertility, so that might be worth investigating further.
(Does that kind of make sense?)
I agree about not throwing the baby out with the bathwater. We just need to take some of the stuff on the internet with a pinch of salt. (Anything that claims to relieve toothache by sucking poisons from your gums needs a very, very large pinch of salt!!). As I said before, wheatgrass probably is pretty good for you - it's just a shame they have to exaggerate/make things up like this.
I also take your point about an orthodox medical background perhaps making some alternative therapies etc seem wacky when they might not be - but in this case a lot of it is just common-sense stuff - we know, if we think about it, that our brains don't get oxygen from chlorophyll in spinach etc, however much of it we eat!
I'm still quite entertained by some of it. Would you really want a detergent acting in your body? I don't think I would! They call me Mr Pig!0 -
If it means that i'll never have to eat another brussel sprout again then i'm up for anything!! ;D0

As with any of these new 'super' thingies....read about em!
http://www.quackwatch.org/ is particularly good
Also find out about how these things are supposed to work, like homeopathy, is one drop of oil in 9 ml of water, then 1ml of this mix into 9 mls, and serially diluted ontil you have the same amount of oil as one drop in the whole of the earths water.
Then they take one drop of this and put it on sugar pills. Next time you feel a bit ill drop some lavender oil into the ocean and then drink a teaspoon full, mind you a teaspoon would be an homeopathic overdose!!
Wheatgrass is essentially quite vitamin and nutrient filled, most people juice it though it can be eaten as is, for that rabbit like effect perhaps, also available as tablets so no yucky taste....
I think is essentially the grass on your lawn, though i would't suggest eating the lawn just yet.
Grass is very hard to digest, even juiced, cellulose the thing that makes plants solid and plant like essentially, is very hard to digest, this is why cows have 4 stomachs (3 false, 1 true), the false ones provide a warm area for bacteria to live, these break down the cellulose and the cow then (after two more stomachs) eats it and gets the 'goodness'.
Whether is does any good? About as likely as it does any bad?
If you like it eat/drink it, if not i suggest multivitamins!!
