in Credit cards
Hi i am posting this on behalf of my in laws. My father in law has been placed into a nursing home due to ill health and we have discovered he had 3 credit cards. One of them he owes just over £1000. They are going to charge i think £18 per week or month, not sure which.
My in laws are not in a position to pay this amount off as they are on a pension and they are now having to find £120 per week for the nursing home. I do not know much about credit cards as i have never had one, is there any way of canceling the card and then freezing the monthly charges on the amount owing ? I am sorry i am not sure which credit card he owes the money on.

I'd talk to the CC companies and explain the situation as soon as possible.0

If you can't agree on a solution with the credit card issuer, try to get your father-in-law to take out 0 per cent balance transfer card, or take out one for him. You can transfer the money from your father-in-law's credit card, and won't have to pay any interest on the new card for a specified amount of time, and then you could also close the old credit card account. I know that is only postponing the problem, but that will at least stop the interest payments for the moment until you can find a way to pay the money back or find another solution. There are lots of comparison sites out there to tell you which card issuers offer the best conditions, check them all out.0
