I assume you're using a VGA cable? (same as the cable you normally use to connect to a monitor, 15 pins in three lines of 5). If you are, you may need to set the laptop up to run with multiple monitors. What version of windows are you running?
As a test, log into windows without the tv plugged in and right click the desktop, properties. Go to the display tab and you should see in the top bit 2 rectangles, representing two monitors. The second one may be greyed out, so right click and enable it, and try plugging the TV in.
From here, I can't help too much as its been a while since I did something like this. Poke around there, there should be something.0 -
^ What he said. There may also be a Fn and 'F' key combination that cycles through the 2 monitors. At least you know everything is OK physically as you can see it at boot up. See if you can get your TVs info screen up, which will tell you the resolution and frequency. At bootup it should be 640x480 and probably 60Hz. I had a similar problem to this with a MacMini and a Samsung LCD, and it turns out the TV wanted 59.9Hz rather than 60, so give that a go after the above stuff.
