Student Bank Account for Mature Student

I'm starting Uni in September as a mature student. Can anyone recommend a student account that is suitable for me please.

it depends on what you want from the account - everything available to 'normal' students should still be available to you. there should be an updated article on the main site soon summarising them all.

  • Just my amateur opinion.

There are accounts that pay a small amount of interest. If you intended to go into the red and put that amount into a high interest account then maybe you could be better off with a 0% interest rate on the overdraft. I think that might damage credit rating though so I'd check on that first.

I have heard on here that if you are in overdraft it might be difficult to get the post Uni facilities from a different bank to the one you have your student account with so if after your degree you might need a large loan or overdraft I would look at what is offered on a student account for while you are at Uni and what graduate / higher-education accounts offer for after your first degree.

I'm a mature student, ive opened a student account at Natwest (liked the railcard and interest free OD), i did also try the Halifax but they said no.

I also have current accounts with Lloyds TSB and Halifax.
