press studs for duvet cover help

I have some lovely child duvet covers from Ikea. they are gorgeous but have just realised they don't have any duvet fasteners/poppers etc at the end.

Can anyone advise what I do to add some fasteners? I don't have a sewing machine and my sewing skills are limited to hems and sewing on buttons......

If you can sew on a button you can sew on a press stud :D Go to a fabric shop, the sell them on cards in various sizes. Or there are some which only require a hammer to put on, although thse might be a bit too "heavy duty." Otherwise - how about using ribbons as "ties?" HTH

I would echo morwenna's comments - they're available in silver, black metal or even - probably best for you - clear plastic! Or you could use velcro - say in 2-3 cm lengths

    Ditto morwenna

Also you could consider velcro. Stitched on in squares.

That is a nice idea Morwenna and would look very pretty - not sure how safe with my toddler but I suppose the ribbon wouldn't have to be very long.

thanks for all these ideas and for your confidence in my sewing abilities :o

. I will head off to my local sewing shop and check out velcro and press stud options.

I suppose it depends how restless you are in bed :rotfl: I know I would probably end up having to put the duvet cover back on every night!

Well they are for my toddler so I thought they might need something. Does this mean that you don't have any probs with the duvet hanging out of the cover in the middle of the night:rotfl:?

Believe me, if I don't need to add press studs, I won't be adding press studs1

My children had them when they were younger. I never added press studs either, and had no problems with the covers coming off :D

  • Well, we've got an ikea one and I was going to add press studs to it as i'm fed upwith the duvet coming out of it during the night (DH says that it is my fault because I wriggle about in my sleep!!!!).

Hadn't thought of velcro (duh!) - what a good idea - thanks!
