SKY TV Installation Problems

Options
Hi there,

I was due to have sky installed today, when the engineers took a look at the property they said that because a couple of trees are in the way they can't get a signal.

They want to send in a "high installation team" in. (I hope they aint been smokin the herb:p ) But they are still doubtful this will work.

What do I do? Are there any other options?

Thanks in advance for your help.

The standard installation team are saying that the dish would need to be mounted much higher up on your property, than their stepladders would allow, to see above these trees. They could mount the dish on a pole to gain the necessary height but I guess that this will cost you more, if it's feasible!

  • Should I have to pay for this then? Its not my fault the trees there!:D

Surely SKY should cover the cost of the install, especially as I was charged £30 for the install ayway.

Probably not if it is possible for them to mount the dish where it can see the satellite:
Sky does not charge customers for extra install equipment such as T&K Brackets or pole mounts. Some sub-contractors operating in the Highlands and Islands region may charge extra for this equipment.

  • Cheers espresso, I can't find any of the small print anywhere on the contract.

Slightly off target here, but the offending trees / hedges are well overgrown, the hedges belong to the council but the tree must belong to a farmer. What are the chances of these getting chopped back? I wouldn't mind seeing daylight once in a while.

Some Sky installation FAQ's here but I don't know about your trees. Try the local council.

You have a great deal to learn (painfully) about the attitude of Sky towards money and customers.

Don't laugh at banana republics. :rotfl:

As a result of how you voted in the last three General Elections,
you'd now be better off living in one.

Beleive me, Ive read the forums and look forward to a bumpy ride;)

However they can be no worse than dealing with Orange!!_pale_
  • We had the same problem, the high team just have the means to climb on your roof and mount the dish as high as possible to get a signal.
Once fitted we where told that due the the height of the trees we could lose the signal and we would have to inform the local council to see if they would do anything about it.
  • PS it didnt cost us any extra :)

The problem with having the dish mounted on the roof is that you can't brush snow out of it in winter, so you lose the picture!

We had ours mounted just next to the bathroom window, to make that possible. :snow_laug
