PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING: Hello Forumites! Following on from :.......I notice that you said 2 of your housemates lived there the previous year - was this current tenancy a new one, with a new AST in place?
Were they given their deposit back for the previous year or was it held over for the current year? When did you pay your own deposit?
Just seen your post (wasn't there when I started my post!):The tenancy began July 2007, however I signed the contract in December 2006, does this make a difference?"5 What is the status of deposits paid in advance - usually by students?5.1 Full deposit was taken before 6 April 2007 (e.g. in March) for an assured shorthold tenancy starting after 6 April 2007 (e.g. in September 2007). Will the deposit need to be protected under a Government-authorised scheme and, if so, at what point? However, others have different views on how the law *should* apply:it's another problem of that sloppy legislative wording.
No deposit taken before 6th April for a tenancy starting after that date will be required to be held under an authorised scheme."0 -
Thank you all for your advice.
Haven't been able to get in contact with the landlord for the past month!
Currently trying to get in contact with CAB, however this seems to be a nightmare too, and Cardiff Council housing department was a waste of time contacting.
Is there any other organisations I could contact?
Thanks again!0 -

Haven't been able to get in contact with the landlord for the past month!
Can you clarify - have you simply been trying to do it via phone or have you actually written a letter, as suggested a few posts back, and received no reply?
There's a standard method if you want to pursue the matter- couple of letters (final one entitled Letter Before Action, then issue proceedings in the county court (small claims). You could also do a forum search for Eager Learner's monumental thread on her deposit recovery. Is there any other organisations I could contact?0
