The obviously question is, why have you not reported them for taking £8k illegally. You can report them anonomously.

I'm not sure what they are doing is Illegal .. but i fail to see that this is how the system was ment to be used ... his salary is very low .. but then so is his expenditure ? all he has to pay for is groceries each week !

He can even take clients out to lunch and dinner on the company expenses so theres another loophole !

I'm not clued up on what he is and isnt entitled to but they are playing the system very well and the business is booming ... he can also pay himself dividends each year that dont count towards ernings

Perhaps this is better discussed in a thread of its own rather than hijacking the OP's original thread?

I actually think it is fairly pertinent on this thread where it is being suggested that no one ever plays the system. We all know it happens. Anyway no one appears to have anything much to offer the OP, except to tell him how lucky he is and the thread has been moved off the benefits board anyway.

Sorry, my misunderstanding, I thought you were implying that they were not entitled to the money in the legal sense (as opposed to the morale sense), if you see what I mean.
  • Sorry coops024 but you obviously havent got all the information from what you've said in your post.

If he is self employed he can not pay himself a wage and he is taxed on his profits. Yes he can claim use of his home etc but if that is where he runs his business this is allowed, its no different to if he had an office else where and was paying rent!

Its really not that easy to say that he is getting this and getting that as if he has an accountant then most will take out what is not allowed but the person still classes it as what they get.

Your posts contridicts if he is self employed or a ltd company. I would guess from what you said he is self employed but I wouldnt use this sort of thing as an example as without knowing the ins and outs it is an unfair one.

Like I said I dont know the in's and out's .. so i guess hes got a Ltd company and is acting as a sole trader ? but the point is the same I still dont believe this was how the benefits system was intended to be used

back on topic I believe the OP was refering to people like this who are using the system or people who are benefit cheats ! .. they do exist you know !
not the good people who rely on the benefit system for the right reasons !

Yes the OP started by angrily sniping at an unfair world when really he wanted help in trying to get out of the hole that he is in.

I don't think that discussions about whether or not someone is self employed or has a limited company and may or not be cheating the system is entirely relevant here and is extremely off topic. Please can we get back to the task in hand in trying to help the OP out of the mess in which he finds himself (he like a lot of other people in this country who have over extended themselves). Discussions about business activities should be discussed on the Small Business board.

    Hi Damian,

I think you have been given some good advice here, especially regarding the mortgage. £250,000 is a very big mortgage for the size of your family. I think interest only or extending the length of the mortgage would help you. You could do this and change back to repayment when the children start school and your wife could work maybe? I understand your stress but you have upset people here who are really struggling.

My mother is on pension credit and is thrilled to be told that she will get free insulation in her loft and cavity wall insulation. The system exists to help the most vulnerable. I myself had to claim benefits years ago as I had no choice...I would not now begrudge anyone else who is in the same position. I think maybe you were looking for scapegoats to blame.

I know you have apologised so don't be put off, come back and let us know how you are.

In the interest of accuracy he is saying his house is worth £250K , his mortgage is about £131K. You are saying the OP has upset people who are really struggling, do you think he is not struggling? It is patently obvious from his SOA that he is. He must feel like a rat on a treadmill, keep running just to stand still

I think its perfectly fair, far too many people get far too much information on benefits from the daily mail and other right wing rags that are doing to govts dirty work and demonising claimants, many who like me have paid in for years and are claiming because we have to not because we chose to!

well would you research benefits if you had no chance of getting them?
