EXTRACT POST 1
Apparently, if I WAS receiving benefit, the insulation would be done for nothing! So it appears to me, working my @rse off trying to make ends meet to support my family, I get nothing; but if I was a lazy, good for nothing so and so with no job, claiming dole, council tax benefit etc, I would also be entitled to free insulation for my home!!
Something just does not add up here. Work, and you get no help, shirk and you get everything given to you on a plate!
I'm fed up!!
EXCUSE ME, AS IM SURE OTHER POSTERS HAVE COMMENTED, NOT ALL OF US ON BENEFITS FOR ONE REASON OR ANOTHER DO NOT SIT ON OUR BACKSIDES WAITING FOR THE MONEY TO ROLL IN.
DOR SOMEONE SUPPOSDLY ASKING FOR ADVICE, I HAVE NEVER MET SUCH A NARROW MINDED INDIVIDUAL.
EXTRAXT POST 7 -You must get the roof over your head paid for by the state, or live with mummy and daddy! Also, which bit of the country do you live in? I am in the south, it's expensive. If you live in the North, then your cost of living is less than mine anyway.

I earn 20k a year. I have a wife and a 3 year old, with a baby on the way. My mortgage is £700 p/m on a 50/50 repayment/interest only arrangement. Other bills total £350 p/m excluding food. Then I have a car to run, petrol maintenance etc. I have virtually nothing left after being paid. I thought about getting the home insulated (cavity wall) as this would save on the heating. To my disgust, I have found that it will cost me at least 200 quid!! All the companies I talked to asked if I was receiving any kind of benefit at all. I told them I was not. Apparently, if I WAS receiving benefit, the insulation would be done for nothing! If your biggest worry is getting £200 worth of insulation for free then i might be so bold as to suggest that you aint got many worries.
Think yourself lucky you are healthy enough to earn a decent living.
Then when youve learnt just abit of humility come back and ask for advice on benefits,i assume you get CTC and CB,does your OH work?0 -
i do my shopping online with tescos. if you go to the discounts online/off line bit of the forum you can find codes - ecoupons to save. ive saved £50+ using them, though not all at the same time. i do a massive shop (fill the freezer and cupboards) for about £120 every 3 weeks, and just nip out to get fresh salad inbetween. theres usually a £9 off £90 coupon on there. maybe she could do a big shop when you get paid or something? its better as well cos you dont have to cart around all those nappies and stuff. and you dont buy as many treats either

Is there any need to be rude and ill mannered?
If you want help with benefits then say so,if not <avoids swearing>0 -

i dont really think thats fair. the media hype the benefits system up so much, if you know nothing about it you will assume its true. also, it is frustrating when you work so hard and see people that dont have a job getting free things. sometimes you have to look at both sides of the coin.0 -
Can your wife not look for something, even just for a few hours a week?
Maybe something during the evening, if you work during the day, to save on childcare?Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
Why don't you change your mortgage to interest only, even just for a little while.
Though have to say of you are struggling now then another (albeit small) mouth is going to be a strain and probably wasn't your best course of action0 -
Out of curiousity what type of house are you living in, could you downsize, although the chance of you selling very quickly in the present climate isnt likely. £250000 seems quite expensive but then I dont know what house prices are like where you are. Our house is a small 3 bed semi in Cornwall prob worth around £150000 with 5 adults living in it.2008£3002009£13002010£15002011£41952012£21942013£1494

I think its perfectly fair, far too many people get far too much information on benefits from the daily mail and other right wing rags that are doing to govts dirty work and demonising claimants, many who like me have paid in for years and are claiming because we have to not because we chose to!:mad:0 -
Well done Mum2one, you managed to quote all my bad bits and make me look like a tw~t! You missed the post where I apologised for tarring all dole claimers with the same brush. You should be a journalist, picking through what has been said and quoting only bits of it. Sounds like I hit a nerve. Try applying to The Sun. You'd fit in nicely there.EXTRACT POST 1
