  • What is she planning to do on it? Basic surfing, messenger, email etc it should be fine. The celeron processors are a little underpowered. 256mb will cause xp to run like a dog particularly as the graphics card will take some.

Have you thought about a cheap desktop if it doesn't need to be portable. It will be more power and cheaper than a laptop.

What sort of budget do you have?

as mentioned memory is a bit low 512 mb is the minimum I'd go for and it should only add £20
Otherwise the specs are a bit above basic (eg dual layer dvd writer) It really depends on the price

i have about £500 to spend - but, they are in vouchers where i can only use them at woolworths or comet so i dont really have that much choice......the reason i am getting a laptop rather than desktop is because her bedroom is that full i wouldnt get another item in there - and, she has specified she definitely wants a laptop....

    thanks for all your help....

WOULD I BE ABLE TO ADD MORE RAM AFTERWARDS TO TAKE IT TO THE 526MB? HOW MUCH WOULD THIS COST ABOUT? IS IT EASY TO DO?

    THANKS

if i could get another £100 from somewhere i could get the following - is that any better?
