Why Do I Have To Double Click Microsoft Word

For the last month or so I find that I have to double click Microsoft Office Word 2003 twice to open a page?

The first time I double click a document it just brings up Word with a blank screen, double click the document again will open the document. Bit of a pain

Is there any way I can get Word just to open a document by just double clicking, as I do with Excel.

FYI operating system XP Pro fully updated

You could try reinstalling Microsoft word or swap to a free alternative like Openoffice.

Thanks to both of you, tried deleting all the "normal.dot" files and also used the Office disk to repair, but neither worked.

Oh well, just have to live with it. Not the worst problem to have, I suppose
