Card Protection Plans & identity fraud

This may be the wrong section to post in. Can anyone advise whether Card Protection Plans are worth the money and which one to recommend. Re using your card online someone getting your details then milking off money from your account. The fee is around £100 per annum to cover legal fees etc.

Any advice gladly received thanks

    CPP & ID Fraud

Best way to deter ID theft where crooks use your personal information to apply for cards (Application Fraud) is to consider this system:

Click here: East of Scotland Fraud Forum. (administered by Lothian & Borders Police).

If someone else clones your card, or uses your card (with your PIN) before you report your card lost or stolen, then according to the Banking Code, if they can't prove you've been negligent with your PIN or acted without due care the most you will have to pay is £50.

If someone uses your card detais you don't have to pay anything. (although for Internet Fraud, you should have up to date anti virus, a firewall, etc.

The only issue at present is PIN security. You can reduce risk to yourself by opting for Chip & Signature Cards.

Latest on Chip & PIN Security.

WARNING: If you card issuer does deem you liable then CPP won't pay out (ask them).

Well, I would not waste my money but you may feel differently. I just don't trust insurance companies to be fair and this is just an insurance policy.
  • i have to agree on that...and you should be careful to those companies offering services like that..it's really hard to trust insurance companies nowadays the only remedy we can is that know the background and the experience of their past and present client...
