New sofa

Need a new sofa as the current one hurts my backside when I sit on it for more than 2 minutes, which kinda defeats the object...

Other than the traditional furniture shops whcih we trawled round last saturday, does anyine have any suggestions for where to find a good deal on a sofa?

Anyone ever bought a sofa from an auction? Anyone got info on auctions in the Glasgow area?

Cheers

Somewhere on these pages - within the last 2 weeks - there was a post about an outlet place in Scotland that sells Marks & Spencers furniture.

Unfortunately I can't get search facility to work at moment but I got the impression that you could get perfect items (not seconds) for about half price!!!

Still wasnt really really cheap but top quality so worth the money.

(There was also a suggestion that if you place an order with M&S then cancel it - it would end up with this company)

Sorry I cant be more help

Cheers Niggy. I will try the search out myself. It was playing up for me yesterday, but I thought it was just my PC. If it doesn't work this time I will let the web master know.

    Ta ;D

You get what you pay for unfortunately. I got those mail order sofas a few years ago a bargain at £199 each for a 2 seater. After 2 years they looked crappy and were saggy and you could feel the wood through the cushioning on the arms. So they went out and I invested in 2 sofas made by Alstons in the UK. All I can say is they cost £600 each but they are superb and will last for many years. The quality is excellent. I went around to several shops found what I liked and then went around again and haggled prices. Even though one shop never had it on display they could get it and I got the best price.

Cheers Niggy.  Anyone else know of any discount stores like this?

Or does anyone know of online shops that sell seconds from the major sofa retailers so that i could go into the shop and sit on the sofa to test it out before ordering it online?

There is a small warehouse in Banbury (near Iceland in the town centre) that does exactly the same thing. Its called "Trade secret" , but is open to the public.

Aha - Banbury!!! That's where I grew up. Bizarre!!!

Bit far away from Glasgow (but might be of help to others so cheers). Though I could get my mum to go in and pick me one out!

    ;D Made me smile!!

p.s. - I know exactly where you mean. I was just fondly remembering trips round the pre-iceland 'Bejam' the other day!
