I still have my wedding video on VHS.
What's the best (and safest-I only have one copy!) way to transfer it?

Simplest way is to plug a video recorder into a dvd recorder and record it that way.0

An even simpler way is to use a combined VHS to DVD recorder like this:

It doesn't make much sense to pay £165 to record one cassette, though. If you say what equipment you already have it will make things easier.
IMO, the safest way is probably to take it to a firm who does this as a professional service.0 -
hiya! i have an even simpler way which will only cost about £28.... i will have to find the link from my email but basically i bought a device off the internet that you plug into vhs and computer/laptop and then play the video and it records it. you can then burn to disk! have just copied off all my childhood videos and it was well worth the money! will dig out the email and let you know (remind me if i forget!).

What you got off Ebay is probably what's known as a video capture device, like the following:

who said anything about ebay, lol!!
it was actually this:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Grabber-designed-capture-source-editing/dp/B000S0QIPI/ref=pd_sbs_ce_1/026-6369508-7709221
but i got it from here:
