pctv hybrid sticks

I have the Dazzle*TV hybrid stick which enable me to watch TV on my PC.

(dazzle is another name for pinnacle 330e hybrid usb stick)

Basically it seems to work well, but I have problems with some channels where the subtitles dont work properly.

does anyone have similar problems with the subtitles?

Have you checked on Pinnacle's website for software or firmware updates for it?

I had similar problems with a Hauppauge device on Freeview, and it seemed to take them a while to get the MHEG part of their software working properly.

i have checked with them, downloaded the latest version of TVPro (their tv program for the stick to work)

I am thinking maybe a different tv program will be better? Do you think it will work with my tv stick? (are there any free tv programs?)

Yes, there are - depending on your OS and how complicated you want to get.

For Linux I can recommend - and personally use - MythTV (complex) and Me-TV (simple).

For Windows I've heard very good things about GB-PVR, but it's a bit more than just a TV player. Probably a good thing to go to their website and check if your Dazzle stick is compatible first.
